Overview Service & Activities
About Helen Lake Trail is a continuation of the Elizabeth Lake Trail. Hikers travel south along the shoreline of Elizabeth Lake. This is an easy, picturesque trail as hikers pass through the alpine valley with high mountains close in on three sides. The Helen Lake basin is hemmed in by the Ptarmigan Wall to the left, Mount Merrit and the Old Sun Glacier to the right, and Ahern Peak and Glacier forming its headwall. This mountain basin is excellent habitat for mountain goats and grizzly. Although there is good fishing in upper Elizabeth Lake, there is no fish in Helen Lake. There is a backcountry campsite at Helen Lake but no open fires allowed and no horse camping. Campsite is exposed to wind. Length: 4.3 miles Trail Begins: Ptarmigan Trail (Elizabeth Lake) Trail Ends: Helen Lake USGS Map1: Park Map
