St. Francis Xavier was built in 1889, the same year Montana became a state. The church is an outstanding structure with its graceful steeple, paintings and stained glass windows. The paintings were done by a brother of the Society of Jesus, a kitchen helper, who painted them in his spare time and turned out to be a master.
