GETTING TO MONTANA IS EASIER THAN EVER

Race to the Sky Dog Sled Race

Race to the Sky is one of the qualifying races prior to the Alaskan Iditarod. In years past, anywhere from 22 to 35 teams have begun this 350-mile race through the Montana backcountry. The official race start is Saturday either near Butte or at Camp Rimini, near Helena. For the next couple of days teams will be going through the White Tail Ranch near Ovando, the Seeley Lake Community Center in Seeley Lake, and making a wilderness checkpoint coming back to Seeley Lake. The finish is at Hi-Country Snack Foods near Lincoln and is predicted sometime Tuesday early evening. Sunday is the start of the 100 mile Junior Race to the Sky and a new 100 mile race for 18 and older mushers.

The Russell Exhibition and Sale is the signature event during the Western Art Week in Great Falls. Saturday night’s live auction features historic and contemporary fine art pieces created by nationally-recognized artists. The four-day event raises funding for the C.M. Russell Museum and has been taking place in Great Falls since 1969.

Ice Breaker Road Race

The Ice Breaker Road Race, named one of the top 100 road races in the country by Runner's World Magazine, is one of the premier running events of the state. Geared toward both families as well as experienced and elite runners, it offers a 5 mile race, 3 mile run and a 1 mile run/walk. The Ice Breaker has attracted an average of 3,500 participants each year and is not only a fitness, competitive event, but also a social event for the community for over 35 years. A special 'race the penguin' (official Ice Breaker mascot) is offered for the younger kids in the 1 mile event.
