Montana boasts an impressive number of museum collections, and community art centers that have gained worldwide fame.

Charles Marion Russell, the cowboy painter; he was the last of a dying breed and he captured the end of an American era.  The C.M. Russell Museum houses the most complete collection of Charles Russell art and personal objects in the world.

Located in Helena, the Montana Historical Society houses the Montana Homeland exhibit that traces 11,000 years of history under the Big Sky.

The Yellowstone Art Center in Billings is a leader in the collection, documentation, exhibition, interpretation, and preservation of works of contemporary and historic art of the Rocky Mountain West. Also in Billings is the Moss Mansion highlighting early turn-of-the-century life.

Montana State University's Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman is the base of operations for renowned paleontologist Jack Horner and Taylor Planetarium—where the science of astronomy blends with the art of theatre for an unforgettable experience.

The Montana Heritage Commission operates historic resources in Virginia City, the Nation’s most unique western gold mining community and Nevada City, Montana’s premier living history/open air museum, home of the Alder Gulch Shortline Railroad-Montana’s only working steam locomotive.
