About Whitefish Mountain Resort's signature hiking route, the Danny On Memorial Trail takes you from the village area all the way to the summit of Big Mountain, or vice versa! This 3.8-mile route meanders through evergreen woods and grassy meadows studded with wildflowers and huckleberries, and offers stunning views of the Flathead Valley. As you approach the summit, the peaks of Glacier National Park will grace your view to the east, rising up like a city skyline. Once you've reached the top, reward yourself with a cold beverage and a bite to eat at the Summit House! This is a challenging trail that has you climb or descend over 2,000 vertical feet. If you only want to hike one way, get a ticket for a Scenic Lift Ride up or down the mountain! You can also extend your hike with scenic detours along the Flower Point and East Rim loop trails. The trail is dedicated to Danny On, a U.S. Forest Service ecologist and renowned nature photographer who loved skiing on Big Mountain until his passing in 1979.
