About At Blackfoot River Outfitters, we understand that a day of fishing is about more than catching fish. There are days fish rocket out to pounce on almost every cast regardless of your fly or presentation. There are days you cast until your hands are numb and all you hook are branches along the bank. Then there are the vast majority of days that lie somewhere in between. All of them are good days. Collectively, our guides have put tens of thousands of hours on local water. We know the rivers like we know the turns of thread on the flies we tie. We know where the fish are most likely to be feeding and what they'll be eating. We know when to offer advice to clients, and when to lay off. Most importantly, we know none of what we do matters unless it serves to make your fishing trip go well beyond the act of fishing. Because that's what fishing is about. Blackfoot River Outfitters, owned and operated by John Herzer and Terri Raugland, is a full service fishing outfitting company, based out of Missoula, Montana. John and Terri have guided in Western Montana since 1990, and are the Western Montana Endorsed Outfitter for Orvis and Frontier's International Travel. Blackfoot River Outfitters provides guided wade, float, overnight and multiday fishing trips year round. Western Montana was blessed by the trout gods. Four major rivers converge on the Missoula area - the Big Blackfoot, Bitterroot, Clark Fork and Rock Creek. Each flashes with rainbows, cutthroats, browns, bulls and the occasional brookie. Where else is it possible to catch five species, plus cutbows in one day - or even from the same rock!? As if Missoula's trout weren't enough, we also lead trips on virtually all of Montana's renowned waters. Desire a day on the Beaverhead, Missouri or Big Hole? No problem. Interested in a 5 day/4 night adventure down the nationally acclaimed Smith River? We are permitted to for that too.
