GETTING TO MONTANA IS EASIER THAN EVER

About

Who knew that jailtime, cows, and graveyards could be this entertaining? Off I-90, the humbly historic Deer Lodge, peer into incarcerated life at the Old Montana Prison, then explore the sprawling Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site for a taste of cowboy culture. Downtown, hit Yak Yak's, where 40 flavors of malts and shakes await.

Continue down I-90 then north on I-15 to Boulder where you can, soak, steam or slumber at the historic Boulder Hot Springs. Just up a gravel road, investigate Elkhorn State Park, a silver mining ghost town boasting intact original buildings and a fascinating historic graveyard.

Back to I-90, for your return trip, cruise up to Drummond where over 125 hamburger options are served at Parkers Restaurant or a slice of pie and small-town chatter at the homey Wagon Wheel Café, then branch south to travel MT 1 on the Pintler Veterans' Memorial Scenic Highway or north to join in the Helmville Labor Day Rodeo.
