About Sandpiper Art Gallery & Gifts was founded in 1971 in Polson Montana by group of local artists. It is currently a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which is run and operated by it's members. All area artists are encouraged and welcome to apply for membership. The Gallery hosts new art exhibits about every six weeks. Invitational art exhibits showcase both members and invited regional artists. Specifically, two of the art shows hosted each year include invitations to all local community artists to participate and submit their artwork with the emphasis of that art show's theme. Sandpiper Art Gallery & Gifts also runs a wonderful Gift Shop within the Gallery that offers local artisan crafts such as ceramics, jewelry, fiber art and woodworking. Sandpiper Art Gallery & Gifts hosts two large local Art Festivals each year in Polson. The "Flathead Lake Festival of Art" which is held in July at the beautiful lakefront Sacajawea Park in Polson, with a spectacular view of the Mission Mountain range and Flathead Lake. This juried two-day event hosts over 40 art vendors displaying and selling their wonderful fine art and fine crafts. This is one of the Gallery's most prestigious events of the year. The second art festival is the "Courthouse Art Festival" which a one-day event held the second Saturday of August on the lawn of the Lake County Courthouse in downtown Polson. This non-juried event includes over 90 vendors with beautiful fine art, handmade crafts, unique gift items and more. The day also includes live music, food vendors and other fun activities. Throughout the year, the Gallery offers unique and instructional art workshops / classes that are open to members and to the public. Profits from Sandpiper Art Gallery & Gifts help fund student scholarships for incoming and existing college students whom are aspiring artists in Lake & Sanders County areas, studying with an emphasis in an area of art studies, and attend an accredited college or art school. All scholarship winners are determined through an application process, having been reviewed and interviewed by a Gallery selection committee, and then approved by the Gallery Board members.
