About The Spotted Bear Lookout Trail offers a strenuous hike through a heavily forested environment broken up by small meadows. The trail ends at a fire lookout tower. Spectacular views in all directions can be seen from the lookout tower. On a clear day looking to the south and east, the Bob Marshall Wilderness, to the north peaks of Glacier Park can be seen. Hungry Horse Reservoir and the Jewel Basin Hiking Area dominate the view to the northwest. Swan Peak, the rest of the Swan Divide, and the Mission Mountains can be seen in the west and southwest. The elevation gain along the trail is 3,530 feet. SPECIAL DIRECTIONS The trailhead to Spotted Bear Lookout Trail is near the Spotted Bear Ranger Station located 55 miles south of Hungry Horse. Take the West Reservoir Road or East Reservoir Road and follow the signs. Most people prefer the East Reservoir Road.
