Overview Service & Activities
About Length: 10 miles Trail Begins: Hellroaring Trailhead Trail Ends: Yellowstone's North Boundary with Gallatin National Forest The Coyote Creek Trail leaves the Hellroaring Trail and veers to the northeast. The trail travels through sage meadows and open stands of Douglas Fir. Views of the Washburn Range and the Yellowstone River Valley to the south are very nice as you climb up the open hillsides that lead into the spruce-fir-pine forest of the plateau. By the time you reach the north boundary you will have climbed approximately 1,500 vertical feet from Hellroaring Creek. It is possible to continue north from the boundary, gradually descending through the forest, to the Gallatin National Forest section of the Hellroaring Trailhead, making a loop hike. The section of the trail in the National Forest receives a great deal of stock use, and more precipitation than the lower sections of trail, and can be quite mucky for hiking.
