About
The Living Water Lodge is our collection of 3 log homes in the middle of the Yellowstone Ecosystem. The Indian Paintbrush is our amazing 2 bdrm log home right on the creek. This home is comfortable, romantic, and just what you imagine when you think of a mountain home! It also has a sofa sleeper in the living room and a futon in the sunroom. We have two dining areas, and a bar-height counter for socializing while preparing food. The private deck boasts an unforgetable setting with a pristine forest, creek and mtn view! We frequently see moose eating willows in our yard!
The Woodland Star is our spacious 1 Bedroom guest house . It's huge bedroom has a king size bed, and 2 twin beds. The living room has a sofa bed and many large windows with a nice dining area. The sunroom/bedroom is stunning with big views and the sound of the stream flowing by. It has a large yard with lots of elbow room.
The Mountain Bluebell is our 1 bedroom cabin with a deck overhanging the creek! It has a queen size bed and lots of windows letting in views and breezes. Amenities include a dining room table with 2 chairs, a small refrigerator and a microwave. There is also a toaster oven and a gas grille. The private bath house is a short walk away. This is another classic setting with babbling water and big mtn views!
Enjoy the view of Amphitheater Mountain soaring above the forest from the large picture windows. Or sit under the huge lodgepole pines in your private lawn. The two homes feature athentic mountain craftsmanship with hand peeled logs, and BIG rock fireplaces. The Mountain Bluebell has a woodstove.
The Living Water Lodge is situated in the beautiful Silvergate valley, less than a mile from Yellowstone Park, and only a few hundred yards from Wyoming's Absaroka Wilderness Area. Our home is located in the town of Silvergate, Montana, which gives our guests the opportunity to walk to the town park, access several wilderness trails, fish from the property, and yet be seconds from great food and gift shops!
The region provides enough variety for weeks of adventure. You will find another collection of restaurants and gift shops just three miles down the road in the 1880's mining town of Cooke City. Within a few miles of the Living Water Lodge you'll find easy hikes to several lakes and waterfalls. Numerous trails leave right from Silvergate that follow peaceful mountain streams, wind through old growth pine forests, or climb up to lofty mountain peaks!
Some day trips include driving over the amazing Beartooth Pass, described by Charles Kuralt as "the most scenic drive in America"! At nearly 11,000 ft, you'll see tundra ecosystems with wildflowers, 20' snowbanks, and possibly big wooly mountain goats right by the road! Numerous lakes provide great car picnicking, or plan to reach Red Lodge, 60 miles, for a game of golf followed by a fabulous meal at the Pollard Hotel!
An hour drive to the West takes you to Mammoth, the park headquarters. Mammoth boasts the Boiling River hot springs, clearly some of the best natural soaking areas anywhere. There is the Mammoth Hotel, Visitor center, mineral terraces and the usual local elk, laying in the grass. Don't miss out on Wilcoxson's Ice Cream (our favorite) at the Hamilton store. Five miles away, the Yellowstone River is a great river for a whitewater rafting experience. You're sure to get wet! A worthy drive beyond Mammoth is the 4 star restaurant, Chico Hot Springs.
A drive through Sunlight Basin to Cody, Wyoming, (80 miles), is a must. Stop at the Sunlight Creek picnic area and look over the 400 ft ravine under the bridge! Wildflowers abound. Once in Cody, John's home town, see the Buffalo Bill Historical Center with its amazing western art, guns, and Native American artifacts. Every night Cody offers its professional rodeo with bucking broncos, bull riding and great events for kids, (bring your running shoes!). Also, try golfing of rafting. The Shoshone River provides a thrilling whitewater experience!
But the best gem of Silvergate is the easy proximity to Yellowstone National Park! The Northeast Entrance is the prettiest and least used entrance. You can hike to Yellowstone in about 15 minutes on one of the breathtaking hiking trails that begin in Silvergate. Or begin an instant adventure by car. The first 15 minutes you'll drive along towering peaks, a cascading river and mature forests with abundant wildlife. The next couple of miles takes you into the famous Lamar Valley, called the "Serengetti of America". You might hike up to Specimen Ridge and marvel at the huge petrified trees, or throw a fishing lure at a Native Cutthroat Trout.
Another 26 miles takes you over the amazing Dunraven Pass to Canyon. The pass is notorious for wildflowers, grizzly viewing, and bighorn sheep. You are now in easy striking distance of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, the Firehole Canyon swimming hole, the Fountain Paint Pots, Morning Glory Pool, Old Faithful, and too many more attractions and activities to mention here.
Our area also boasts some world class fishing lakes and streams, and big game hunting. The Soda Butte Creek runs through our property and holds some very nice fish! Within an hour are the Clarks Fork River, the Lamar River, and the Yellowstone River, which has some great drift boat fishing for boistrous Rainbow Trout! Or just relax and order delicious rainbow trout at the Log Cabin Cafe, which adjoins our property.
We're confident that you'll enjoy the mountain experience of a lifetime at the Living Water Lodge! You can unwind and enjoy nature, relax in some hot springs, or challenge yourself to new heights. It's all here, and we'll do our best to show you some big Western hospitality! See you soon!
