About Welcome to Whitetail Cabin! This cabin is a registered historic site and once was used as a ranger station for the Whitetail Reserve in the early 1900's. It was approved as an administrative site in 1909. The cabin was built in the 1930's by the Civil Conservation Corps. The cabin is available to rent throughout the year. Whitetail cabin is totally accessible by vehicle except in the winter months you may need to hike approximately 100 yards to reach the cabin from the road. The cabin is furnished with a table, four chairs and two bunk beds with mattresses. There is electricity but NO WATER. There is an electric cook stove with an oven, a few cooking and eating utensils, and an electric refrigerator. There is also a broom and mop with a bucket. The Forest Service does not provide cleaning services or garbage removal for this cabin. Cleaning and trash removal is each renter's responsibility and your efforts are appreciated in keeping the cabin clean for the next user. There is also a wood burning stove and the Forest Service provides a limited supply of wood. Please let us know via the condition report when the wood supply is getting low. There is a round pen corral facility, two hitching rails, and approximately 5 acres of fenced area to contain packing and riding livestock. Supplemental packing and riding livestock feed must be certified weed free. There is seasonal spring water available for livestock consumption only. Please contact the Ashland District office to find out what the current water conditions are if you plan to rent Whitetail cabin and have your horses/mules/pack-goats/etc. with you. Black Bears live in the area, store your food, beverages, coolers, and garbage inside the cabin. Please 'Pack it in - Pack it out.' including garbage while you are staying at Whitetail Cabin.

SPECIAL DIRECTIONS From Ashland Montana travel approximately 5 miles east on Highway 212 to the East Fork Otter Creek Road. Turn north east onto East Fork Otter Creek Road and travel 12 miles to the Whitetail Cabin.
