Overview Service & Activities
About From the Casey Meadows Trail (343) it is approximately 6 miles to Casey Peak. Once you reach the Casey Peak Trail continue about 1.5 miles. This part of the trail has over a dozen switchbacks. There are fabulous views in all directions from the peak that include Helena, East Helena and the valley to the north, Canyon Ferry Lake to the east, Elkhorn Peak to the south, and the Continental Divide to the west. For the more ambitious hiker you may want to take the loop that is approximately 14 miles round-trip and an extra 400-foot elevation gain. To take the loop, return from the peak west to the Montgomery Park Trail 301 to the McClellan Creek Trail 302 back to the Casey meadows/McClellan Creek Trailhead. The length of this trail is 1.5 miles. The trail begins at Trail Junction 301 and ends at Casey Peak. Area maps available are the Helena National Forest Visitor Map, the Elkhorn Mountains Travel and Recreation map, and USGS Map1: Casey Peak, Township 8N; Range 2W; Section 23.

SPECIAL DIRECTIONS Access to the Casey Peak Trail can be reached by parking at the trailhead for the Casey Meadows and McClellan Creek Trails. To get to the trailhead, take I-15 to the Montana City Exit and head east, turn right just past the pizza restaurant onto the McClellan Creek Road. Continue on this road approximately 6.5 miles to the Crystal Creek/McClellan Creek junction, turn right and continue another 2 miles to the Casey Meadows/McClellan Creek trailhead. Another way to access the trailhead is to take Highway 12 East, 2 miles east of East Helena, turn south onto McClellan Creek Road. Either route is approximately 10 miles on dirt roads. The two trails that access Casey Peak are the Casey Meadows and the McClellan Creek Trails. Casey Meadows is the shorter of the two. Take the Casey Meadows Trail 343 then head south on Montgomery Park Trail 301. The Casey Peak Trail is approximately 1 mile past Casey Meadows, which starts to the south or left. The second route is to hike on the Casey Meadows Trail 343 approximately ¼ mile to the junction with McClellan Creek Trail 302. Hike the McClellan Creek Trail 302 to the junction with the Montgomery Park Trail 301. Continue to the left, or east, on Trail 301 for approximately 3 miles to reach the Casey Peak Trail 374.
