The elevation gain along this trail is 1,835 feet and is considered a strenuous hike. The wood frame, two story Apgar Lookout was built in 1929. No longer in use, the fire tower is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. From the Lookout there are views of Lake McDonald as well as the surrounding mountain peaks.

SPECIAL DIRECTIONS
Apgar Lookout Trail can be reached by taking the Apgar horse corral road, halfway between Apgar and West Glacier. Follow road to a Y-intersection, keeping to the left, follow sign to Quarter Circle Bridge. You will need to cross the bridge and follow the road for approximately one mile. Turn right, and follow the trailhead sign, you will then reach the Apgar Lookout trailhead approximately 0.5 mile.
