About Yaak Mtn. Lookout has been used as an observation point for spotting forest fires since 1958 This lookout offers outstanding views of the town of Troy, the Kootenai River and surrounding area. The lookout is equipped with one twin size bunk with three mattresses, a propane stove, refrigerator, heater, lights, table, chairs, shovel, bucket and cleaning gear. The lookout is not wired for electricity and has an outdoor toilet. Water sources are limited in the area and there is not water at the lookout. We recommend bringing your own drinking water as all open water is considered contaminated. Due to tower height we discourage bringing young children or pets. The lookout can be reserved 3 days in advance of your stay by contacting the Ranger Station or contact the National Recreation Reservation Service at 1-877-444-6777 or www.recreation.gov, the cabin can be reserved 180 days in advance of your stay. $35.00 per night, 14 day stay limit.

SPECIAL DIRECTIONS From Troy, Montana follow Highway 2 west 3 miles to the East Side Road 176. Follow the East Side Road 176 about 2 miles north to the Kilbrennen Lake Road 2394. Follow Kilbrennen Lake Road 2394 approximately 4 miles to the Yaak Mountain Road 4407. You will find a gate on this road and need to have the combination code to enter. Keep gate locked after entry. Follow Road 4407 to the Yaak Mountain Lookout.
