About
On Way-Up Mine Trail one will often see bands of mountain goats on the cliff faces in the area. The trail offers vistas of Lost Horse Mountain to the south and glimpses of Twin Peaks to the north as well as good views of the basin, which forms the headwaters of West Fisher Creek. At the end of the trail is a tailings pile and an adit (mine shaft.) DO NOT go into the mine shaft! It is extremely dangerous! Although there is water near, drinking it is not advised as this water may contain contaminants from the mining operation. Use of the cabin at the trailhead is prohibited. Motorized vehicles are not allowed. Length: 1.3 miles. Light use, moderate difficulty. Area Map: Libby Ranger District Road Access Map USGS Map: Howard Lake
