About
Yarnell Island is located on the Kootenai National Forest in northwest Montana, 21 miles northeast of Libby and approximately 3 miles north of Libby Dam on Lake Koocanusa. This site is accessible only by boat; during periods of drawdown from the Dam, one can walk to the island. Fishing may also be enjoyed at Yarnell Island. There are 8 campsites. Please limit your stay to 14 days. Pets are welcome, but they must be kept on leashes. There are no facilities--the only restroom was destroyed by vandals and has not been replaced. From Libby, travel northeast 21 miles on Montana Highway 37. Access may be limited in spring, fall and winter due to snow.
