Yankee Jim Canyon is a short, narrow canyon on the Yellowstone River within the Custer Gallatin National Forest, about 13 miles north of Yellowstone Park. Yankee Jim Canyon is best known for its whitewater floating as it offers the largest rapids on the Yellowstone River outside of Yellowstone Park (boating on the Yellowstone River is banned in Yellowstone Park). The canyon is less than five miles long and the whitewater rapids are found in the first couple of miles. There are a number of options for access points for a Yankee Jim Canyon float. Rafting and kayaking are popular and there are a number of whitewater rafting companies located nearby.
